Chris McKay was selected to continue in the Batman world and helm the live-action Nightwing feature after filming the immensely popular The Lego Batman Movie. (Dick Grayson, the first Robin, is the alter ego of Nightwing.) Things appeared to be progressing, to the point that McKay was tweeting about how the film will be cast and publicly discussing how unique the narrative he has in mind is. Then a few of things happened. There was the whole Zack Snyder drama, with Warner Bros. turning away from them in some cases, but not all. The epidemic then seemed to have reset quite a bit. I inquired about Nightwing with McKay, and as you’ll see below, it does appear to be a possibility.
Meanwhile, there’s The Tomorrow War, which is a standalone story. It was intended to be released in theaters by Paramount in 2020, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Paramount sold the picture to Amazon, and it will be available on Amazon Prime this weekend. McKay isn’t shy about admitting that it’s been a trying time. Or, at the very least, he’s been “sighed a lot” in recent months. Evil aliens are assaulting Earth in the Tomorrow War. However, the twist is that they will attack in the future. And Earth is doing such a poor job of battling them that they have to time travel back to the present to recruit more fighters. Dan Forester, who has previously served in the military, is conscripted to help with the investigation. IMDB
